Certified Living History Educator (CLHE): Bringing History to Life – In Classrooms and Communities
The Certified Living History Educator (CLHE) program, offered by the San Antonio Living History Association (SALHA), is a professional development and credentialing program designed for educators, museum interpreters, reenactors, and community historians who want to transform the way history is taught and experienced.
Through immersive training, participants learn how to deliver historically accurate, TEKS-aligned, and culturally inclusive presentations that engage audiences of all ages. The CLHE program blends research-based instructional strategies with the art of historical interpretation, ensuring participants leave with the skills, confidence, and resources to make the past meaningful and relevant.
- Course Duration: 6 hours of CPE credit
- Format: Virtual sessions with interactive demonstrations
- Schedule: Fall 2025 - 8:30-10:30 AM on 9/6, 9/20, 10/11, 10/25, 11/01, 11/15, 12/20
- Cost: $75.00
- Target Audience: K-12 teachers, museum educators, reenactors, community historians

The CLHE course consists of six instructional modules:
- Foundations of Living History Interpretation – The philosophy, purpose, and impact of immersive history.
- Understanding TEKS & Curriculum Integration – Connecting interpretation to classroom standards.
- Public Speaking & Character Development – Voice, presence, and historical storytelling.
- Inclusive and Ethical Representation – Honoring all voices in historical narratives.
- Planning and Presenting for Schools – Designing engaging, age-appropriate programs.
- Field Evaluation & Certification – Demonstrating mastery through live or recorded presentation.
- Earn CLHE credential and recognition through SALHA
- Gain access to classroom and community presentation opportunities
- Strengthen professional networks with educators and interpreters
- Develop a portfolio of lesson plans, scripts, and presentation materials
- Total Time Commitment: 6 hours of direct instruction + independent preparation
- This first CLHE course will be available only in virtual format
- Includes interactive demonstrations, peer feedback, and final evaluation
